Michael Anthony Garcia's Misplaced Animal: Live Art fills the Dome

The Dome at Notsuoh was honored to welcome Austin-based artist Michael Anthony Garcia for an intimate performance of Misplaced Animal in June of 2025, an immersive work that blended spoken word, collage, moving image, and live performance into a deeply reflective collective experience.

Taking an opportunity to be more experimental, Michael transformed the Dome into a poetic environment where his projected collage imagery became an active collaborator in the performance. The visuals shifted and unfolded alongside his words as he moved through the space, interacting with the projected imagery to create a layered dialogue between image, language, and the artist's presence.

Before an enraptured audience, Misplaced Animal explored our relationship with nature, memory, and the environment we inhabit. Garcia's writing invited listeners to consider the ways we interact with the world around us while questioning our relationship with nature.

The Dome's immersive architecture provided an ideal setting for this kind of interdisciplinary work, because the multidisciplinary work blended within the dome to create one immersive poetry/visual/live art experience.

As always, It was a pleasure to welcome Michael Anthony Garcia back to Houston and to share this experimental performance with our community. Evenings like these continue to demonstrate the magick of creating a space for artists to expand their practices, take creative risks, and invite the curious into new ways of experiencing live art-- with a spirit of intimacy and nurture.
